WWE boss Triple H reveals his one big concern with bringing CM Punk back to the company – but it has NOTHING to do with his backstage fights in AEW

WWE boss Triple H has revealed his one concern with bringing CM Punk back to the company.

Punk made one of the most shocking returns in wrestling history when he returned to WWE late last year, just weeks after being sacked by rival promotion AEW following a number of backstage fights.

He has behaved since returning to the place he made his name before quitting a decade ago, currently embroiled in a feud with Drew McIntyre after costing the Scot the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.

WWE and Triple H received backlash for singing the self-proclaimed ‘Best in the World’, but the move so far seems to have paid off.

Speaking prior to the weekend’s WrestleMania event, HHH explained how his opinion on the former UFC man has changed from years ago, though expressed his one concern around the deal.

‘I can say this about CM Punk, this is a completely different CM Punk than he was when he left,’ Triple H said. ‘And it’s been all for the positive.

‘He has been nothing but a wonderful employee, and nothing but a wonderful addition to the team. It has been so refreshing, in a way, working with him, that we’ve been keeping him a part of everything, even while he’s out injured. So it’s been great.’

Punk picked up an arm injury in the Royal Rumble match in January, meaning he was ruled out of action at WrestleMania, much to the disappointment of the fans.

He was still involved, however, appearing on the kick-off show before taking to commentary for the first match of night two between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre.

After McIntyre won the match – and title – he went to gloat in front of Punk before being attacked and losing his belt when Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase for a match.

On Raw the following night, Punk hid under the ring before costing McIntyre his No1 contender’s match. Days later, however, AEW aired footage of a real-life fight between Punk and fellow wrestler Jack Perry backstage at Wembley in August.

Punk appeared to push his colleague and grab him, before the two were separated and Punk let go from his contract.

He has spoken of feeling rejuvenated after re-signing for WWE, however, and seems to have been in good spirits since putting pen to paper on his new deal.

Triple H explained exactly how that happened, with the 45-year-old returning at the end of Survivor Series in November, walking into the arena in the last shot of the show.

‘As we got closer to the event, there was a couple of conversations that happened between Punk and Nick Khan,’ Triple H revealed. ‘Nick had said to me, “Hey, would you be opposed to me having a conversation and just seeing where it goes?” And I was like, “No, look, I have no issues there. Just my concern would just be, what’s the fit?”

‘I left Gorilla for a minute to go say hello. And then the other talent I pulled aside in the break before the match, before they went to the ring.

‘I’m sure there was a lot of mixed emotions. Controversial guy, and I’m sure, well, let me just say, over the next day or two, I had a lot of very interesting private conversations with a lot of people to just air their differences, and we all got to an amicable place.’
