Watch Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega get into a bloody feud in ‘Taste’ music video

Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega murder each other, kiss in Death Becomes Her-inspired music video
“Taste” is the third single from the newly-released “Short n’ Sweet.”

Sabrina Carpenter gets into a murderous feud with scream queen (and fellow Disney Channel alum) Jenna Ortega in the killer music video for “Taste,” the third single from her newest studio album Short n’ Sweet.

Inspired by some notable Hollywood titles, including the dark comedy Death Becomes Her with the immortal Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn and revenge flick Kill Bill with Uma Thurman, the video from director Dave Meyers sees an endless, gory fight between the immortal leading ladies.

Over the course of the bloodbath due to a boyfriend, Carpenter falls out of a window and is impaled by a fence, gets set on fire, and has her arm chopped off all in the hands of Ortega. Ortega, meanwhile, gets a knife to the eye and breaks some bones when Carpenter messes with the voodoo doll version of her.

It all comes to a head when Ortega mistakenly murders the boyfriend by the pool, which is where she and Carpenter lock lips. At the funeral for the “beloved boyfriend,” the two realize they’re better as allies and bury the hatchet.

In retrospect, their late boyfriend was “clingy” and had “lots of trauma,” Carpenter informs Ortega over some milkshakes while still in their funeral attire, which take direct cues from Streep and Hawn’s Death Becomes Her characters. Yes, and “very insecure!” Ortega notes.

“Very insecure!” Carpenter cackles. “You kill me.”

“Taste” is the third single from Carpenter’s newly-released Short n’ Sweet (out today), a follow-up to her celebrated Emails I Can’t Send. The single comes on the heels of viral hits “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” The latter also featured a starry and Hollywood-inspired music video, with Carpenter starring opposite her Oscar-nominated actor boyfriend Barry Keoghan and the two channeling Bonnie and Clyde, among other characters.

“I love the faces of the ’60s and ’90s — old Hollywood, flirty and fun,” Carpenter said a recent Variety cover story ahead of the release of Short n’ Sweet. “This is definitely the vibe of my album.”

Ortega, on the other hand, was a killer choice for the gory “Taste” video. The Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated star played Tara Carpenter in the latest Scream franchise iterations and shot to stardom after being cast in Tim Burton’s Wednesday series on Netflix as the titular Addams family daughter. She’s also set to join Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara in Burton’s highly-anticipated Beetlejuice sequel (in theaters Sept. 6), as Astrid, the daughter of Ryder’s iconic Lydia Deetz.
