Top Star Didn’t Enjoy WWE Product Prior To Triple H Taking Over

A top star has admitted that they didn’t enjoy the WWE product prior to Triple H taking charge of creative.

With the ‘Paul Levesque Era’ now officially underway following a record-breaking WrestleMania 40 event, it’s safe to say WWE is riding high on a great deal of momentum, something most fans would agree has been attributed to a far improved and logical TV product.

One of the top beneficiaries of Triple H’s creative has undoubtedly been The Ring General GUNTHER, who recently wrapped up a 666 day Intercontinental Championship reign at WrestleMania 40 where he lost to Sami Zayn.

Although the majority of GUNTHER’s reign took place under Triple H’s watchful eye, it’s easy to forget that it began under the old regime when the Austrian defeated Ricochet to win the title on June 10, 2022.

Speaking to Gorilla Position, GUNTHER was asked whether he feels that the success he achieved as Intercontinental Champion would have been achieved under the old regime – to which he answered:

“I don’t know, but it was one of the reasons why, for a long time I didn’t want to go to the US. The product before Triple H was not what I enjoyed. I just didn’t want to be part of that.

“I am who I am and that’s what I can do best. A big part of that is I need to have my time in the ring and have that time to put on the matches I can put on. That chance would not be there under the old regime.

“With Triple H, he always saw that in me, and he always had that vision for me. I got lucky that a lot of things in my career took place at the right time.

“It was a little bit of a leap of faith when I first made the move over. Everything worked out in the end.”

GUNTHER and much of the rest of the WWE locker room across Raw, SmackDown and NXT will learn their fates for the next year in the second night of the 2024 Draft on tomorrow night’s WWE Raw (April 29).
