Katy Perry’s comeback is going down like a lead balloon with some fans, with the mum-of-one ruthlessly mocked as she teased an upcoming music video on Wednesday night.

The American pop star is set to release a new album called 143 in the autumn. On Instagram, Perry shared the artwork for the album cover, which shows her wearing a transparent ensemble with long flowing hair.

The record is available to pre-order now, according to the caption, and will be released on September 20 – a month before her 40th birthday. It comes after the American pop singer revealed she would release her first single in two years, Woman’s World, on Thursday.

A teaser of the music video has been shared on Twitter, with the segment attracting a lot of criticism due to the themes in single’s visuals and its producers. Katy’s new track Woman’s World is produced by her former collaborator Lukasz Gottwald “Dr. Luke”, the man has faced allegations of sexual abuse and is known for being challenging to work with.

In late 2014, Kesha sued Gottwaldfor sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, emotional abuse, and violation of business practices which had occurred over 10 years working together. The pair settled the case out of court earlier this year. Gottwald has always denied any and all accusations of abuse, but his involvement in Perry’s new song has not gone down well with her fans.

The 39-year-old has teased the song with an Instagram video that shows her wearing a Rosie The Riveter-inspired outfit comprised of a white and red polka dot headscarf, a bra with the American flag on it, shorts and a tool belt.

“A song produced by drluke in 2024? no thanks,” one wrote in response as a clip of the music video for Woman’s World went viral on Twitter (X) this evening. Others took issue with Perry’s theme, which sees the starlet dance in a skimpy bikini. “It’s a woman’s world… but this definitely is content for men,” one quipped, as another added: “Poisonous, a scourge on the minds of young women and girls.”

“We won’t be streaming,” yet another critic penned online, with a former fan declaring: “I thought better of her. Grow up.” However, some are looking forward to Perry’s comeback, writing: “We love a pop diva delivering everything we ask for.” Another positive tweet reads: “the MAIN pop girl is back and taking it!!”

Perry has had five number one singles in the UK with tracks including I Kissed A Girl, California Gurls and Roar, as well as two number one albums with Teenage Dream (2010) and Prism (2013).

The performer, known for catchy hits including Firework and Part Of Me, last released an album in 2020 called Smile, which went to number five in the UK albums chart. It arrived the same month she gave birth to her daughter Daisy Dove whom she shares with her partner, actor Orlando Bloom.
