Cardi B and Offset: A Complete Timeline of Their On-Off Romance

Cardi B and Offset’s romance appears to be on again.

After rumors began circulating that the couple had broken up shortly after celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary in 2023, the “Bongos” rapper revealed to fans that she has been “single for a minute.” The breakup is the latest of several that the pair have suffered during their tumultuous relationship.

The pair privately tied the knot in 2017 after a whirlwind romance and share two children: daughter Kulture and son Wave. Offset is also father to Jordan and Kalea and Kody from previous relationships.

Despite their ups and downs — which saw Cardi filing for divorce twice before calling it off — the rappers have always maintained a strong respect for one another. Here’s a look at the ups and downs of Cardi B and Offset’s years-long romance.

The rappers collaborated on Cardi’s song, “Lick,” around the same time they were spotted out together. Romance rumors were quick to circulate between the two rising stars.

According to a Rolling Stone article conducted with his rap group, Migos, Offset was intrigued by Cardi and her rise as an artist. He asked a publicist to set up a dinner with a group of women that included Cardi in early 2017. “I was like, ‘Damn, I am on her!'” he told the publication. “I am like, ‘S**t, I like Cardi B!'” In an extremely baller move, their first date ended up being at the Super Bowl in Houston, Texas, that year, though they remained coy about their romance for months. Less than 10 days later, Cardi would post about her Valentine’s Day date with her new beau, but she later deleted it.

Even though they attended a New York Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets game together on March 12, the budding relationship seemed to crash to halt, at least publically, when Cardi told Fader that same month, “I’m not saying I’m dating an Altanta guy” and then wouldn’t confirm if she and Offset were a couple. The following month, Offset also denied relationship rumors, simply smirking when Tim Westwood asked about his relationship status in two separate interviews. The “I Like It” rapper also chatted with Westwood, never mentioning Offset by name, but instead calling him “the boy.”

The pair seemed pretty smitten when they stepped out together at a Met Gala after-party at 1OAK in New York City.

Cardi and Offset attend the 2017 BET Awards separately, with the Bronx rapper turning heads in a plunging red suit and the Atlanta native hitting the carpet with his group, Migos. In a Fader interview that same month, Cardi still does not confirm that Offset is her boyfriend.

Holy bling, Batman! The pair were seen together backstage at a Meek Mill concert, where Cardi was rocking the personalized $60K chain given to her by Offset. Elliot Avianne, a celebrity jeweler, shared a close-up of the necklace on Instagram, captioning it “Bloody Moves” and tagging Cardi.

The “I Like It” rapper shuts down engagement rumors at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, telling reporters that she was happy but had no plans to walk down the aisle. In fact, she was extremely direct with Charlamagne tha God on the red carpet after he asked about the rumors, singing, “Does you see a ring on my ring finger?”

In what will make quite a few months of the rest of this timeline very confusing, though fans wouldn’t know it for almost a year, the couple secretly tied the knot after a series of breakups and makeups. The only person present besides the officiant was Cardi’s cousin.

This post has been made private or deleted by the post’s owner.

Despite being on tour with his group, Migos, halfway across the world in New Zealand, Offset still publicly wished his girl a very happy birthday, sharing both a sweet video in which he overlaid the message “HAPPY BDAY MI’ QUEEN” as well as a candid pic of the two together. He captioned the latter, “H A P P Y B D A Y U ARE AMAZING TO ME YOU GOT IT OUT DA MUDD NO HELP NOBODY WAS BELIEVING AT FIRST BUT THAT MADE YOU GO HARDER U NOT WEAK U TAKE CARE YA WHOLE FAMILY AND ME —- I L O V E Y O U.”

In mid-October, there was a little disagreement that caused breakup rumors to spread (a since-deleted Instagram post of Cardi that had “single” written on it didn’t help), but the Bronx-born rapper would later apologize to fans for blowing things out of proportion, ended her Twitter apology, “Naaa but on a serious note I really loveeeee my man ?he was gifted to me from Jesus ❤️.”

Less than a week later, Offset popped the question to Cardi in front of 20,000 people during their Power 99 Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia. As we would find out later, the couple had already been secretly married at this point, but that didn’t stop Cardi from gushing about the gigantic diamond sparkler on social media. “Jesus Christ I’m so emotional, @offsetyrn I love you so much,” she wrote. “Thank you for seeing the potential in me since you met me. For giving me advice molding me and loving me.”

For Offset’s 26th birthday party, the couple dazzled at his Met Gala-themed bash, “The Set Gala.” Cardi gifted her man a Rolls Royce Wraith, and later penned a sweet message for him, writing, “People see the jewelry and the money, I see the hard work you put in and how caring you are for others. You take care of family, your kids, gang and friends! You always challenge me to work harder and be better!”

The couple is plagued with cheating scandals, with an alleged video of Offset in a hotel room with another woman surfacing and a model claiming she was pregnant with the “Bad and Boujee” rapper’s child. Both deny rumors, but Cardi isn’t seen with an engagement ring during a New Year’s Eve appearance. She would also later tweet her frustrations that people seemed to be forcing her to make decisions about her relationship when it was no one else’s business but hers. Amidst all this, Offset also gets a tattoo of Cardi B’s name on his neck, and they also attend the 2018 GRAMMYs together on Jan. 28.

In her cover story for Cosmopolitan’s April issue, Cardi got candid about the cheating rumors that had plagued her relationship with Offset from the start. “It’s like everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem,” she said. “I don’t have low self-esteem… I know I look good. I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want — any basketball player, football player. But I want to work out my s**t with my man and I don’t got to explain why.”

She went on to note, “It’s not right, what he f**king did, but people don’t know what I did, ‘cause I ain’t no angel.”

First, Cardi seemingly addressed (or warned?) Offset in her March single, “Be Careful With Me.” The following month, things got steamy in the music video for Cardi’s song, “Bartier Cardi,” with the couple showed off some major PDA in the back of a car.

After weeks of speculation, Cardi finally confirmed her pregnancy during an appearance as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live. The rapper wore a fitted white dress, perfectly accentuating her growing baby bump ahead of the release of her album, Invasion of Privacy. Following the reveal, she cheered, “I’m finally free!”

At the time, Offset posted a photo of himself and Cardi, writing, “Cardi and I look forward to our next chapter together.”

In an interview with GQ — released before the pregnancy news was confirmed — Cardi opened up about her future plans with Offset and their family, saying, “He decided, though, that we’re going to build a house in Atlanta, and that’s the house that we’re gonna raise our kids in. But my job is in New York, always, so I can barely spend time in Atlanta.”

She also addressed the cheating rumors once again. “For a long time we was in love with each other but we didn’t really trust in each other… We never really trusted each other because I always feel like he could get any girl he wants — what makes me think he’s gonna want me? I think he felt the same way,” she told the mag, in part.

Shortly after the pregnancy reveal, Cardi visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she admitted that Offset had already chosen their future child’s name. “My dude named the baby. I really like the name,” she said. “Imma let him say the name.”

With the cat out of the bag, the expectant parents couldn’t help but show off some precious baby love at the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Cardi performed at the event, but it was Offset who was all loved up, posing while kissing Cardi’s baby bump and cradling her growing stomach backstage.

Though the two walked the red carpet at the Met Gala separately, they did take pictures together inside and at an after-party following the soiree. A couple of days later, the pregnant rapper revealed in an interview with The New York Times that she was “upset” that Offset didn’t get to walk with her on the carpet. Instead, he posed for pics with his rap group, while Cardi walked with designer Jeremy Scott. She even noted that her man was originally supposed to wear the matching Moschino companion suit Jeremy donned at the gala. There was no bad blood, however; Offset simply ended up attending as a guest of Donatella Versace.

Cardi took to Instagram to share the couple’s Rolling Stone cover, which features Offset kissing Cardi’s bare baby bump. Emblazoned next to them on the cover were the words, “Cardi B & Offset: A Hip-Hop Love Story.”

Offset referred to Cardi as his “wife” when Migos accepted the BET Award for Best Group, prompting immediate speculation as to whether or not that pair had gotten secretly married. After Offset’s slip-up, Cardi confirmed that she had married the rapper the previous September in a message to her fans on social media. “There are so many moments that I share with the world and there are moments that I want to keep for myself!” she wrote. “Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new, breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other, was one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married. We founds someone to marry us. And she did, just the two of us and my cousin. I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring!” She also called out her haters for claiming that she was having a child out of wedlock, because, surprise, she was not.

Two days later, Cardi would start to share photos from her baby shower on June 27. “Thank you everybody for coming,” she wrote. “I really appreciated with all my heart and will never forget ya!!!

Cardi announced that she had given birth to her and Offset’s daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, with a series of nude maternity photos of herself.

The new parents opted not to share photos of their daughter on social media, but did post a pic together as they took their baby girl to get her shots. “Doctors visit with mom and Dad,” Cardi captioned the photo.

To celebrate parenthood, Cardi and Offset bought matching Lamborghinis and posed next to one another with their new his-and-her Lamborghinis.

Cardi B hosted the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, kicking off the show by walking on stage with what appeared to be a baby bundle. Turns out, it was just a moonman statue, wrapped up like a baby, but the gag even confused Offset. After the show Cardi tweeted with laughing emojis, “Why Set said, ‘I was so mad when I saw you on stage with that blanket. I thought you want going to show Kulture.’”

Less than two months after giving birth, Cardi looked incredible in a nude photo that Offset posted of her. The Migos rapper captioned the pic, “Wifey, goddess, beauty.”

The couple looked all loved up at the 2018 American Music Awards, where Cardi took home two awards and stole the show. “I really want to thank my daughter, because they said I wasn’t gonna make it after I had a baby,” Cardi said in one acceptance speech. “And my husband — hey, husband! Mmmm.”

That same day, her interview with W Magazine was released, in which infidelity was mentioned once again, where she noted that it “almost drives me crazy, because I start to believe them.” She also explained why her marriage was unique — even explaining that she basically suggested to Offest that they get married while they were in the middle of an argument. “When I got married with my dude, we still had a lot of doubts, because our relationship is not like everybody’s,” she told the publication. “He was always traveling, and I was always traveling. We’re artists. So I used to see him, like, twice a week, and, you know, he’s known for having different women, and I’m known for, like, not taking s**t from guys. But we really loved each other, and we was scared to lose each other.”

Cardi was loving motherhood and her husband when she spoke to ET’s Katie Krause at the launch of her Fashion Nova X Cardi B line. “He’s changing diapers, but I’ve been seeing Offset being a dad,” she told ET. “He already has three kids, so I already fell in love with the way that he was a dad already. I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I can have a little one with this guy.’ He’s really good.”

Cardi also added, “I want two more. It could always be a hit or a miss, but I don’t want nothing right now.”

Offset hinted that he and his wife might drop a joint album, Beyonce and JAY-Z-style in an interview with The New York Times. “I have no distractions,” he said, “And me and her? We haven’t even dropped an album yet. That’s a whole other realm.”

He added that marrying Cardi was “the best thing that’s happened” to him. “I’d seen [Cardi’s] potential, her vision, her grind,” he said. “Whatever she does, she’s going to master it. She’s like me… She brings excitement and pressure to me, but I like that… I have a wife and a child — that changed my whole everything. I was a young hothead, but now I understand the value of life.”

The couple couldn’t contain their PDA at the 102.7 KIISFM’s Jingle Ball, kissing and performing together on stage. “Thank you, husband,” Cardi gushed. “He’s so fine. That’s my baby daddy, yo!” The Los Angeles-area concert would end up being their last public appearance as a couple.

to reveal that she and Offset were “not together anymore” and headed for a divorce. “So everybody been bugging me and everything, and you know I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now,” she explained in the lengthy clip. “We’re really good friends, and you know we’re really good business partners, and you know, he’s always somebody that I run to to talk to and we got a lot of love for each other. But things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”

Offset seemingly confirmed the news, cryptically commenting on his wife’s post, “Y’all won.”

While performing at Z100’s Jingle Ball 2018 in New York City, Cardi switched up the lyrics to her single, “Motorsport.” Usually, the line goes, “I turn Offset on. I told him the other day, ‘Man, we should sell that porn.'” During the annual holiday concert, however, she rapped, “I turn Offset on. I told him the other day, ‘We should get divorced.’” She also slyly took aim at the Migos member while performing “Bartier Cardi,” putting her middle finger in the air while rapping, “Cardi got rich, they upset, Cardi put the p***y on Offset, Cartier, Cardi B brain on Offset.”

Cardi hopped on Instagram Live, slamming haters who claimed her marriage was fake and setting the record straight for the sake of her daughter, Kulture, who would one day be able to read all about her parents’ split. “We never did anything for f**king publicity, b**ch. You think I got f**king pregnant, could’ve ruined my career for f**king publicity, you dumba**es? I don’t regret anything because at the end of the day, I have my daughter, I learned a lot. I really knew nothing much from the music industry and my husband helped me. He made me wiser. He let me open my eyes to a lot of things and even though we’re not together anymore, you know what I’m saying, I learned a lot.”

That same day, Offset took to Twitter, where he pined over his ex in all-caps: “F**K YALL I MISS CARDI.”

Offset stormed the stage during Cardi B’s headlining Rolling Loud performance to ask for her forgiveness amid cheating rumors. The “Be Careful” songstress had barely begun her set at the Banc of California Stadium Grounds in L.A. when a three-part sign that read “Take Me Back Cardi,” comprised of roses, was rolled out onto the stage. “I just wanna to tell you I’m sorry, babe,” the rapper told Cardi, who looked more than irate. “In person, in front of the world, I love you. Whatever I gotta do to show you, I will.”

Social media users called the incident a PR stunt after a video surfaced of Cardi’s publicist, Patientce Foster, seemingly in on it, as she was seen ushering Offset to the stage, but the “I Like It” rapper slammed those rumors in a series of NSFW posts. Still, Rolling Loud co-founder Tariq Cherif claimed in a statement to the Los Angeles Times that Cardi’s management was aware of the stunt. “We were told she was going to have a guest star during her set, that it was going to be [Offset’s rap trio] Migos, but we didn’t know anything about that stunt,” the statement read. “We’re getting blamed as if we conspired to do this, and I just want to make it clear that we did not.”

Back on? Despite their issues, the estranged pair enjoyed time together in Puerto Rico. In photos obtained byTMZ, the two were seen cozying while jet skiing, and Offset shared pics from the water adventure to his Instagram Story, where a glimpse of Cardi could be seen in one of the mirrors. Cardi also shared an Instagram Story video of herself wearing a white two-piece and dancing along to music while in her hotel room, and the clip contained Puerto Rico flag emojis.

In her Instagram Story Cardi shared a screenshot of her FaceTime with her estranged husband, Offset. who was holding their 6-month-old daughter, Kulture, and giving her a kiss. Cardi’s face, as well as little Kulture’s, is covered with a heart emoji. “I wanna go home,” the “I Like It” singer wrote on top of the photo. While Cardi’s whereabouts at the time were unknown, she did share another snapshot of a clapperboard that says, “It’s a wrap for today!” which could indicate that she was filming a music video.

After appearing in a Queens, New York, court for a hearing regarding her alleged strip club brawl, Cardi told reporters that she and her husband are “working it out, baby.” Additionally, TMZ reported that the couple is officially back on and even living under the same roof again in Atlanta, Georgia. Just a few hours later, the pair was spotted together at the Big Game Weekend Party at Oak Nightclub in the ATL, where Super Bowl LIII was held.

The on-again, off-again pair showed plenty of PDA while walking the 2019 GRAMMY Awards red carpet. That night, Cardi won her first GRAMMY for Best Rap Album and Offset helped her onstage. During her acceptance speech, the mother of one also thanked her husband.

“You, husband, thank you,” Cardi said. “Nah, serious, because he was like, ‘You gonna do this album, girl. We gonna have this baby. We gonna make this album.'”

For Offset’s 28th birthday, the “I Like It” rapper gifted her man with $500,000 cash. “Everyone’s saying you got every car, you got every jewelry… what else can I give somebody that got everything? The fridge,” Cardi said on Instagram, prompting Offset to look at the empty refrigerator behind him.

The seemingly empty fridge did have something in it, though: $500,000.

On Kulture’s second birthday, Cardi defended Offset for gifting their daughter with a Birkin bag. “When celebrities buy their kids jewelry and designer s**t, people be like, ‘Kids don’t care about that. They only care about toys and candy,'” she said on her Instagram Story. “Yeah, they only care about toys and candy but the thing is the kids also go outside. You know what I’m saying? Kids go to restaurants, kids go to fancy places, celebrity kids, they go do red carpets.”

Cardi added, “And if I’m fly and Daddy’s fly, then so is the kid. If I’m wearing Cha-nay-nay, my kid’s having the same same, you know what I’m saying?” she quipped. “It’s not up to what the kids like. If it was the kids, they’d be outside in diapers. Because if I was looking like a bad b**ch, expensive b**ch and I have my kid looking like a bum bum, then y’all would be talking s**t. So I’m not mad that Daddy bought baby a Birkin. She’s gonna match Mommy.”

In an interview with Elle, Cardi opened up about her marriage to Offset and the scrutiny they receive from the public. “I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything,” Cardi said, alluding to Offset’s alleged infidelity. “But there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship. It’s always us against the world… There’s always rumors about me and my husband, and I feel like people would rather start rumors because they want me to be heartbroken. They want me to be hurt.”

Cardi filed for divorce from Offset in Fulton County, Georgia. According to court docs obtained by TMZ, Cardi sought primary physical custody as well as legal custody of Kulture. She also asked that Offset pay child support, her legal expenses and that there be “an equitable division of all marital assets.” The docs also reportedly stated that the two were currently separated and that “there are no prospects for a reconciliation.”

The “WAP” rapper’s divorce case against her husband was “dismissed without prejudice” and is now closed, ET confirmed. This came as no surprise to fans as about a month after she filed for divorce, the estranged couple was photographed kissing while celebrating Cardi’s birthday in Las Vegas, then going to a strip club in Atlanta together the following week. Cardi later told fans that she and Offset had gotten back together, saying that she decided to file for divorce to teach the Migos rapper “a lesson.”

Cardi threw her husband a 29th birthday bash in Atlanta, which received some backlash from fans as it was held amid the coronavirus pandemic. Videos posted to both rappers’ Instagram Stories showed them partying all night and into the morning with friends in a packed nightclub. Judging from the videos, it appeared most attendees (including the couple) decided to forgo masks and any form of social distancing. ET reached out to Cardi for comment, and in a press release shared by Offset’s rep, it notes that “COVID prevention measures included COVID testing prior to entry, sanitation of the building prior to doors opening courtesy of Sanitary and masks and sanitizing stations throughout the party.”

During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Offset opened up to guest host Stephen “tWitch” Boss about how his wife usually rings in Father’s Day. “She usually surprises me with an expensive gift, man. That’s how it usually goes,” the Migos rapper said. “She always just give me love… My other kids who ain’t hers… [she] gives them love the same way. It’s a beautiful thing.” While he admitted to looking forward to the potential for an expensive gift, he said he simply wants “to be at home more than anything, just enjoying the kids… running around [and saying,] ‘Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!’… Being able to see them all at once just running around, it’s beautiful. Just with the family [having] family time.” When Father’s Day rolled around, the Georgia native posted the sweet cards his kids wrote him to Instagram.

The “Up” rapper announced her second pregnancy while performing with Migos at the 2021 BET Awards in Los Angeles. Cardi made the reveal with an onstage ensemble that perfectly highlighted her little one on the way. Migos hinted to ET ahead of the show that they had something big in store, teasing, “The most electrifying show on Earth. The Migos are going to break the stage.” That same day, Cardi took to Instagram to share a stylized photo of her baby bump, captioning the gorgeous pic, “#2.”

Just one day after making a surprise announcement at the 2021 BET Awards that she and Offset are expecting their second child together, Cardi took to Instagram to share pics from a new maternity photo shoot. In a post dedicated to Offset, Cardi thanked everyone for “the congrats and well wishes” after hearing the exciting news about baby No. 2. “We listened to each other, communicated, prayed and then God blessed us and our family with another little blessing,” she gushed. “Our home feels so blissful and very busy 😩but we are ready and so happy!!”

Cardi B and Offset welcomed their second child together, a baby boy. The “WAP” rapper shared the big news with an Instagram picture of her and her husband cradling their newborn in the hospital, while under a Louis Vuitton blanket. In a statement, the couple told fans, “We are so overjoyed to finally meet our son. He is already loved so much by family and friends and we can’t wait to introduce him to his other siblings.” Offset later shared another picture from the hospital, writing, “Chapter 5.” The Migos rapper is a father of five. In addition to his and Cardi’s daughter, Kulture, he is also a father to daughter Kalea and sons Kody and Jordan from previous relationships.

Cardi B and Offset have called it quits once again. On Dec. 11, the “Bongos” rapper took to Instagram Live and revealed to fans that she has been “single for a while” but was unsure how to share the news with her fans.

The news came after fans noticed that Cardi B and Offset had unfollowed each other on Instagram, accompanied by cryptic messages on Cardi’s Instagram Story about outgrowing relationships and putting herself first.

During the live session, Cardi said, “I don’t know if y’all have been getting clues from me from my Live, I mean… or from my Instagram Stories, where I put certain music. When it comes to events and stuff, I don’t think it’s true, I don’t care to find out because I have been single for a minute now.”

The 31-year-old rapper acknowledged her struggle in breaking the news, saying, “I have been afraid to… not afraid, but I just don’t know how to tell the world. I feel like today has been like a sign. The last time I got on Live, I kind of wanted to tell you, but I didn’t know how to tell you, so I changed my mind.”

Offset and Cardi B

Cardi emphasized that she was ready for a fresh start in 2024, expressing excitement for a new life and a new beginning.

Amid the breakup revelation, Offset is facing additional challenges as rapper Blueface made explicit claims on X (formerly Twitter) that Offset had been intimate with Chrisean Rock. Offset vehemently denied the allegations, responding to Blueface’s accusations with a tweet that read, “I ain’t never talk or touch that lady. Real Talk man you need some help!”

The drama unfolded further on social media, with Blueface insisting that Chrisean slept with Offset and providing details of the alleged encounter, including the date and time.
