- Randy Orton will face Gunther in the final
- WWE will also crown the Queen of the Ring
The WWE Universe will get its new King of the Ring during the King and Queen of the Ring premium live event on Saturday (May 25). Randy Orton and Gunther will square off in the final with an eye on the crown. Randy, surprisingly, has never won this crown despite being in WWE for 22 years.
Gunther has reached the final in his maiden attempt and he is the favourite to defeat Randy. The record-breaking Intercontinental Champion is expected to become King Gunther. The new “King” will get a title opportunity against the champion at SummerSlam, scheduled to take place on August 3. WWE will also crown the new Queen of the Ring at the premium live event.
WWE crowned its first-ever King of the Ring in 1985. From Triple H to King Booker to Bret Hart, many superstars have benefitted from winning this tournament. Here we have a look at past WWE superstars who have won King of the Ring –

Winning this tournament was once the stepping stone for superstars but the past few winners didn’t do much after being crowned King of the Ring. Xavier Woods wasn’t pushed after he won the tournament while King Corbin had a forgettable run.
King Booker was probably the last superstar who had a memorable run after winning the crown. Booker T’s run as King Booker is still remembered as one of the best acts in WWE.
Triple H likes to elevate championships and the fans expect him to book the winner of the King of the Ring solidly. Gunther has already proven his credentials and he had a memorable run as the Intercontinental Champion. He will enter the world championship picture should he become King Gunther.
Randy has nothing to prove to anyone and he is already a WWE legend. Since he hasn’t won this tournament yet, he could be booked to win this. Otherwise, there is no reason for Randy to win this as he can get a championship match against Cody Rhodes or Damian Priest anytime he wants.
