Triple H believes that history will repeat itself once again in January 2025.
With any televised broadcast, fans are used to watching the show on a certain day, at a certain time and on a certain channel. If either of these 3 factors are changed, ratings generally take a dip as a result as casual fans may not have been aware of the change or choose to not tune in as they have other plans. WWE has also been a victim of this in the past when SmackDown has been moved from FOX to FS1 as a result of other programming taking precedence.
In 2025, the company enters their most unpredictable period in TV broadcasting as Monday Night Raw will move exclusively to Netflix in the United States. Along with the usual challenges of changing channels, WWE also has to rely on fans signing up for Netflix and paying for the subscription if they don’t already. When asked about this by Triple H, the Chief Content Officer had no concerns.
Speaking at the Sports Business Journal’s Congress of Sports, Triple H stated that fans are gravitating towards streaming services in the modern era and when they have changed networks in the past it has always been successful:
“That’s where the world’s going. It’s easy for our fan base. We have a long history of changing locations and a massive amount of our people, like 95% of our audience just completely comes with us. I think this will be no different.”
On October 4 2019, WWE presented their debut episode on Fox. Advertising an appearance from The Rock and a World Championship match ahead of time, the company was optimistic that many would tune in and set the ball rolling with a strong rating. The show was a success with nearly 4 million people watching the debut episode.
Triple H Discusses Working With The Rock
The promotion recently presented WrestleMania 40, which was the most successful show in the history of the event. With sell-out arenas week after week and great ratings for Raw and SmackDown, this was in part due to the return of The Rock, who made multiple appearances in the lead-up to WrestleMania. Also at the event, Triple H detailed The Rock’s creative process.
