EW exclusively unveils the 2024 VMAs social categories nominees, including all-new awards for VMAs Most Iconic Performance and Best Trending Video.
From that Britney Spears and Madonna onstage smooch to Beyoncé’s pregnancy reveal to Lady Gaga covering herself in blood, the MTV Video Music Awards have hosted some truly memorable pop culture moments. And now, fans can vote on some of their favorites.
The 2024 VMAs have announced their four Social Categories, including: Song of Summer, presented by Hilton; Best Group; and two all-new categories, VMAs Most Iconic Performance and Best Trending Video.
The Most Iconic Performance category celebrates some of the most memorable VMAs performances in the history of the show. In addition to the aforementioned moments, performances of Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” Eminem’s “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am,” Katy Perry’s “Roar,” and Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” are also nominated.
The other new category — Best Trending Video — celebrates the artist’s videos and/or songs that inspired fandoms to generate tremendous content related to the video and/or song. As they have in the past, Best Group and Song of the Summer celebrate voters’ favorite group across all genres and all-round favorite summer 2024 hit, respectively.
Fans can vote on each of the categories on MTV’s Instagram Story at the date and times listed below.
MTV has also announced a “Bonus Week” of voting across general categories, with voting now closing on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. ET. Fans can vote for their favorites across 15 gender-neutral categories, including the highly coveted Video of the Year, by visiting vote.mtv.com. Voting for Best New Artist will remain active into the show.
