Taylor Swift is standing up for fellow pop icon Lady Gaga after pregnancy rumors prompted Gaga to take to her social media channels to set the record straight. Swift made her thoughts known by commenting on Gaga’s June 4th TikTok post, saying, “Can we all agree that it’s invasive and irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body? Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation, and neither does any woman,” sealing her post with a kiss emoji.
Gaga’s initial post referenced her album “The Tortured Poets Department” and was a response to speculation that she was expecting a baby. On June 4th, she posted a TikTok video writing, “Not pregnant, just down bad crying at the gym,” using the opportunity to encourage her followers to register to vote.
The uniting of two of the biggest women in pop music unsurprisingly prompted some strong reactions. One TikTok user commented, “My mother was quick with a response LOL,” while another wrote, “Excuse me, the TS reference? Oh, our pop mothers.” Another added, “Gaga’s a Swifty? Yes OMG.”
Taylor Swift’s defense of Lady Gaga on the topic of body image in the public eye is fitting, considering Gaga’s previous public support for Swift. Gaga once applauded Taylor for being open about her struggles with disordered eating. A clip from Swift’s 2020 documentary “Miss Americana” resurfaced online in 2023, where Swift discussed her past issues with body image and how she learned to maintain a healthier relationship with food.
In the documentary, Swift shared, “I thought that I was just supposed to feel like I was going to pass out at the end of a show or in the middle of it. I thought that was how it was, and now I realize, no, if you eat food, have energy, get stronger, you can do all these shows and not feel like you’re going to pass out.” She added, “I’m a lot happier with who I am, and I don’t care as much if somebody points out that I have gained weight. It’s just something that makes my life better.”
Gaga reacted to Swift’s brave revelation with admiration, commenting, “That’s really brave, everything you said,” alongside a heart emoji.
The mutual support between Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga highlights the importance of solidarity among women in the public eye, especially regarding sensitive topics like body image and personal privacy. Their combined influence continues to inspire and encourage their fans to embrace self-acceptance and respect for others.
